This major release introduces a number of new features that will boost your productivity, such as wide Ladder nets and dynamic I/O configurations. You can download it from here: https://unitronicsplc.com/software-visilogic/

In addition, when you install this version and open it for the first time, a pop-up will allow you to access app store links for Unitronics’ Remote Operator for Mobile app.

Unitroniics Remote Operator for mobile.png

Features

Remote Operator for Mobile

The Help menu now offers a link that will access the App store. In addition, the Help topic Remote Operator via Mobile App now contains QR codes that you can scan with your mobile to get the app.

Ladder:
2X the Space

VisiLogic Ladder nets are now wide, and reach completely across your PC screen - no empty areas.  This gives you twice the editing space.

Switching I/O Configurations

Once you have added I/O Expansion Modules to your project, you can create variations called 'IO Module Configurations'.

Configurations are hardware profiles that enable a controller to run the application if it has a physical I/O configuration that is different from the full I/O Configuration in the project. Each profile that you create has an index number.

You determine which configuration is active by storing a value in SI 205. The application will run according to the selected Config without error.

To enable your program logic to run correctly when switching configurations, you must map the digital inputs and outputs to MBs, and use these MBs as program conditions instead of Input and Output operands. Since analog I/Os are linked to operands, they do not require any special handling.

Run As Admin

VisiLogic and other software utilities are now set to "Run as Admin".

Project
Navigation Tree

Simple, static HMI elements such as lines and circles now appear on the Project
Navigation Tree under Static.

Remote Access:
Alarms

You can now Jump to Display in Alarms when running Remote Access.

V700, SI 184: Port

SI 184 Indicates which port is installed: 0-none, 1-serial, 2-ethernet,4-Profibus

PID Server

You can now export using different pictures and data formats. Note that the Excel file is saved as .xls file that cannot be opened in office 2013 but can be opened in office 2010 .

HMI Zoom

You can now zoom  HMI displays to twice their size, when editing displays for V700 and V1040, V1210 .

Operand
Export/import

Separators are now supported when importing/exporting.

You can also select whether to import Fast operands, preset/current of timers and counters.

The CSV of operand descriptions now includes a row of operands types.

While importing, VisiLogic now displays a progress bar.

Data Table Import

When importing a .UPD file,  you now have options to Select all and Clear all

Project Memory Map

Project memory map now displays topic sizes.

When multiple password levels are needed, there are only two choices. You can create a Password Entry Button for each password level or use a Numeric Entry and compare the entered password against the password levels in the logic to set the desired levels. However, the negative to using the Numeric Entry for passwords is that the digits that are entered on the screen while the users touches the screen. This can be a BAD problem.

Here is a sample program that will draw a black line on the screen that will hide the digit as they are entered. This program is setup for a 4 digit password and uses the Simple (Back) Keyboard Screen. The sample program has a normal Numeric Entry Button to show that it will not blank out the digits unless it is programmed to do so.

When the Simple Keyboard Screen is open, the logic looks at the pixels on the screen to detect when a digit is being entered. Each time a digit is entered, the logic will draw the blank line over the display. Each of the four digits will be covered as they are typed. The logic also monitors the area over the "Back" button and will remove the black line covering the digit if the user presses the "Back" button.

Since the Numeric Entry Button will display the number that was just entered from the Entry Screen, this logic will hide the button if it equals one of the passwords. There is a "Clear Password" button that will reset the password integer and un-hide the Password button again.

The sample shows some buttons that will only show when the desired password level is entered. There are two passwords in this sample (1111 and 2222).

Note: The logic detects the screen that is being displayed and the area where the Password Entry button is located. These variables will have to be changed to reflect where the Password button is located on your program. This was logic will not work on the Complex keyboard without modifying the pixel area that it monitors for the digits and Back keys.

This is a starting point to customize to meet your needs. Hope you find it helpful.

Samba™ is an all-in-one palm-sized HMI + PLC + onboard I/Os.

As a trendsetter in the field of all-in-one PLC + HMI integrated controllers, Unitronics has specifically developed Samba for applications that require PLC control, but that are limited by budget to simple text displays.

System integrators and OEMs often develop applications that require PLC control, but that settle on simple text displays due to limited budget.

Samba's beautiful HMI 3.5” QVGA 16-bit touchscreen enables data entry and display of variable data, including color Trend graphs and alarm screens. The HMI supports 24 user-designed screens, and up to 40 images per application.

The integrated PLC controller offers a broad range of features including 2 auto-tuned PID loops, time-based RTC control, datalogging, recipes and more. Internal memory holds 0.5 MB of application logic, plus 512K for fonts and 0.5 MB for images.

Onboard I/Os offer digital, analog, and high-speed functionality.

The flat fascia and IP66/IP65/NEMA4X rating makes Samba an excellent fit for the food & pharmaceutical industries--ideal wherever spray/wipe down requirements apply.

Samba offers a built-in RS232 port. You can add an additional RS485 serial, Ethernet, or CANbus port. Samba supports GPRS/GSM, email, SMS, as well as industrial TCP/IP protocols, MODBUS, DF1 slave, CANopen, J1939 and more—and it may be adapted to any 3rd-party protocol.

Unitronics free VisiLogic software provides a single simple environment for hardware and communications configuration, Ladder application development, and HMI design, including a free library of industrial images. Free utilities support remote PC access and data export. Unitronics offers free technical support for all of their products, and an active user forum.

Samba offers all the functionality system integrators need for small applications, reduces space requirements, wiring, and eliminates the need to set up Panel-PLC communication—resulting in an excellent price/performance ratio.

Embedded Web Server + Web Page Editor

The powerful, built-in Web Server enables multiple users to simultaneously access webpages within a UniStream controller. Web page access may be controlled by password, permitting users to view and/or edit data via any browser and from any smart phone or tablet.

WebServer 1

Designing web pages in the editor is as easy as building HMI pages, and requires no knowledge of HTML. The programmer drags and drops elements from the Toolbox onto the web page, and customizes them via the element properties.

The drag & drop interface has the same look-and-feel as the HMI Editor.

WebServer 2

CAN Layer 2 Ladder Functions

The CAN Layer 2 functions enable you to support any CANbus protocol, according to the CANbus V2.0 standard.

A UniStream controller can both send and receive standard messages with 11-bit identifiers, as well as extended messages with 29-bit identifiers

UniCAN

UniCAN, Unitronics' proprietary CANbus protocol, enables fast data communications.Via UniCAN, a Unitronics' PLC can exchange data with up to 60 other networked PLCs.

UniCAN Communications are determined by configuration rather than programming. Note that UniCAN also enables easy data transfer between UniStream and Vision controllers.

CANbus Sniffer

The embedded CANbus Sniffer enables you to easily monitor CANbus communications and boosts your troubleshooting capabilities.

This version also supports new hardware: a new Uni-I/O™ analog module comprising 8 13-bit analog input channels; with input ranges of 0-10v, 0-20mA and 4-20mA, and a new 3G modem, the Cinterion EHS6T.

A novel feature launched with this version, Hardware Configuration profiles, can save considerable programming. These enable a controller to run an application if it has a physical I/O configuration that is different from the full I/O Configuration in the project. The application will run according to the selected profile without error--even if the application uses data tags of I/Os that belong to the full I/O configuration, but that are not part of the selected profile. This feature can save time for programmers who may need to run the same application in systems containing different I/O and COM module configuration.

UniLogic 1.12.20 contains a number of additional features and enhancements. The software and complete feature list is available for free download at http://www.unitronics.com/support/downloads

Story 1 - Waterplay® Aquatic Play Pad Uses V130-33-R34 to Bring New Life to Communities

Waterplay® Solutions Corp. provides premium aquatic recreational features world-wide. They needed a PLC with a built in HMI that could meet their specific programming and space requirements.

Unitronics' V130-33-R34 was the perfect solution to their specific needs.

Waterplay

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With thousands of installations world-wide, Waterplay® Solutions Corp. has provided their customers premium aquatic recreational features since 1987. Offering a variety of innovative products that are designed to turn any space into an exciting attraction, Waterplay® responds directly to their customer needs; including aquatic play features, slide activity centers, waterslides urban water features, and water management solutions.

With one particular project Waterplay® was working on in Texas, they had an aquatic play pad that had a very small area where a PLC controller could be placed. In their existing line of controllers they were using at the time, they specifically needed a digital output to control a relay, and the particular manufacture they were using did not have a PLC with high enough rated built in relays to operate the valves that they used. As a result, they were on the search for a PLC with an integrated HMI. The controller need the following operations either built in or programmable to meet their requirements:

Programming requirements:

· Start/stop time for the week

· To be able to have the system on/off for each day of the week

· Receive an input from the field to start a sequence

· Log number of activations/per day and downloadable

· Automatically open/close each output

· To have internal relays that can operate a solenoid valve that requires 0.41 amps of in rush current (0.25 amps holding)

· Relatively easy to program with minimal cost for software

· Field reprogrammable with a flash card

Physical requirements:

· To be able to fit in a 6 x 10 inch space

· Multi line graphic interface

· Expandable without taking up additional space, or using minimal additional space.

"The Unitronics V130-33-R34 was able to reach these requirements and more." Said Carney Neave of Waterplay® Solutions Corp. "The controller was very easy to program and customize for our application. The staff and tech support of Unitronics are very efficient and knowledgeable”

Unitronics is proud to be a part of Waterplay's role in bringing the joy of water to people and communities. "We do more than build aquatic play features. We’ve helped turn crime-ridden downtown parks into family attractions." Says Neaves. "We’ve given new life to abandoned community facilities, bringing kids back to play in them. We work with you to create environments that promote exploration and discovery, fostering imaginative, interactive play."

Story 2 - MSI Tec Uses Vision570™ to Control the City of Tucson's Natural Gas Engine Well Pumps

MSI Tec needed to replace inadequate controllers for the City of Tucson's natural gas engine well pumps. Their main requirements were: Improved screen readability, remote connection to the customer's SCADA system, historical data availability, and an easy to use interface.

Unitronics Vision570™ was chosen and met each of their requirements and more.

MSI Tec Tuscon

Unitronics distributor, MSI Tec, was put to the task of designing a panel to control natural gas engines at the City of Tucson’s (population >500,000) well pumps. The control panels would need to be installed at 43 sites around the city. The cost per engine and shaft can be greater than $400,000. Rapid changes in RPM can cause a large column of water to shift up and down quickly and become a very expensive jackhammer, so the importance of a robust and reliable controller for these control panels was a necessity. The previous controllers that were used had screens that became increasingly difficult to read after a couple of years, which is why they needed to be replaced with a controller that had improved readability. Other necessary requirements were the ability to remotely connect to the customer's SCADA system, historical data availability- to diagnose possible causes of any issues that may arise- and an easy to use interface.

"The Vision570™ was selected because of its ideal size, color touch screen, and terrific feature set for the price." Said Matthew Cronin of MSI Tec. The Vision570™s are mounted in un-insulated panels outdoors.

Tucson’s high temperature frequently climbs above 110 degrees (the record is 117 degrees), and the low often drops below freezing (the record low is 6 degrees). In the three years the panels have been installed, there have been over 250 days with the temperature above 100 degrees. Meanwhile, humidity ranges from an average low of 5% in June to an average high of 75% in July. The high quality of Unitronic's touch screens allowed them to be resilient to the temperature and sun exposure. "The temperature was so hot that we couldn’t keep our computers running for more than 10 minutes…in the shade. In order to update the stations, we used cars with air-conditioned seats. We had to leave the cars running the entire day to keep the air and the seats cool enough for the laptops to not lock up. Even if there were multiple PLCs at a single station, we still had to go put the laptops in the car for a few minutes between each code download to keep the laptops running. Despite this excessive heat, the Unitronics kept running without a problem. And they continue to do so to this day.” said Cronin.

Using Unitronics’ Modbus TCP functionality and a cell modem, Tucson Water’s SCADA system is able to communicate with each well site individually. They are also able to use the V570's SD card functions to write data out every 1-120 minutes depending on user settings- which aids in problem diagnosis. The Unitronics V570 also provides an elegant and reliable 5.7” touch screen for a comparable price to the customer's previous 2-line display system. Utilization of the touch screen system allowed for significantly easier interfacing.

“After the systems were all installed, an upgrade was requested. They systems are not networked, so this required an onsite code change to approximately 40 stations…in July. Interesting hurdles were experienced during this upgrade, but none of them were because of the Unitronics." Said Cronin. "The Vision570 was the most cost effective solution for this application. By combining low cost I/O, communications, PLC functionality, and an HMI in a single package, Unitronics delivered more capability for less money. Because Unitronics is an all-in-one solution, programming is very rapid because no time is spent trying to get the HMI to “talk” to the PLC. This system required a diverse combination of analog inputs and outputs, digital inputs and outputs, and high speed pulse outputs. Unitronics had a flexible and affordable set of I/O cards to accomplish this."
