  1. I used SAMBA for retrofit hydraulic machine control. One day on this mobile machine SAMBA screen is damaged. Even with the damaged screen it continued to control the operation of all systems. I was asked to change settings and with Unitronics software I was able to do it without any problems. Finnaly i setup remote settings via software for local staff. I wanted to try to "propose" to apply the already known Unitronics Virtual HMI technology to our most affordable Samba PLCs. By removing the touchscreen and screen from Samba (and integrating WiFi into it), Unitronics could certainly create a solution that competes in the market with smart relays. But it would have a number of advantages that the Visilogic environment gives us. Usually, in a simple control system, PLCs without HMI are sufficient. Virtual HMI control makes such a simple PLC an interesting product. I think creating a SAMBA virtual HMI version is possible. Only HMI side must be replaced by DIN rail mount set. There is no need for any additional cost to change the software before it becomes available on the market. Maybe virtual simulation of different resolution also possible. What do you think about this?
  2. Hi, in my current project I have a button on my touchscreen. If this button is pressed, MB33 is set and afterwards MB 10 should be set too. But, as you can see in the image below, the execution of the net stops before MB10. Basicly I copied this structure out of this tutorial : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RyFPPE3Hdk&feature=youtu.be&t=572 In the tutorial they use the same sequence of contact and coil to turn a "LED" on the touchscreen on and off. Any ideas, why it doesnt work for me?
  3. Hi guys, we have connected our SAMBA to WLAN and can access it now through WLAN with the Visilogic software. Now we want to export data from the Samba through WLAN to a PC. For example when a new User enter his name on the touchpad of the samba, the samba should send this information to the PC. How can we do this? Is there any tutorial on a task like this? Greetings
  4. In one of my projects, I measured the length of the material using an encoder. The customer initially wanted to print the measurement results on a thermal printer (Zebra GK420d) locally and be able to view the status remotely over the network. However, after buying Samba SM35-J-T20 and conducting tests, he wanted to implement reading the order number using a barcode scanner. I could not install the optional com port because it was replaced by a network adapter. After testing with the printer, I found that it only needed two wires GND and TX. The barcode scanner (LS2208 RS232) also work with only two wires GND and RX. By configuring this two devices at the same speed, I was able to connect them simultaneously on the same com port via Protocol FB. For the printer, I used an example posted by Ofir from the topic I think for the readers of the forum will be a useful link to the online label generator http://labelary.com/viewer.html This helps to create a print label quickly and efficiently with minimum PLC requirements.
  5. Good Afternoon Guys Is there any way that i can set the time and date from the HMI on the Samba. I have an application where the HMI/PLC will be shipped internationally and the Samba will be locked down, now as it will be shipped i need a way to set the time and date by the user, this is my first Samba project and up to now its going really well but a few things have stumped me.
  6. I'm faced with a task that I can not implement yet. We have a chemical process that is controlled by a PLC (Samba). It lasts more than 24 hours. If the power fails, then it's possible to continue it normally only for 15 minutes without energy. After a switch-off period of more than 15 minutes, the process must be interrupted. It is clear that I need to copy the clock values to the variable every minute, and then, after re-switching on the power, compare the time passed with the value of 15 minutes. The question is how to calculate the shutdown duration, since the real-time clock goes to 00.00 and it is possible that the process can be shut off exactly at 24 hours and no crash will be recorded. I have seen on the forum a way to determine the length if the distance meter is overflowing. If in my case operate time in seconds then may this method work? Of course it is necessary to take into account the change of days in the calendar. Is there an easier way?
  7. Hello all, Recently we performed an installation of 2 PLCs model SM43-J-R20 (both containing the same program and updated to the last OS) to control 2 oil boilers. A few days ago, our customer reported the following problem from only one of them: Sometimes, one of the PLCs shows a backlighted black screen (as seen in the attached picture). However, the process in the PLC seems not to be affected since it keeps running. Then, if they restart the PLC, it works well. (Note that the PLC has been powered ON for hours when this happens). We replaced the PLC with a new one with no results. The problem is still the same. As additional info, the installation includes one contactor directly driven at 220V by a relay output from the PLC and we think that the problem described happens at the moment when the contactor is actuated (our customer is not sure about it). But as I said, it doesn't always happen as a regular issue and only one of both PLCs is showing this behavior even though they contain the same program and electrical installation. Any ideas? Thanks.
  8. Bonjour, Quelqu'un a t-il déjà piloté ou connecté un moteur PAP sur un système SAMBA? Merci, Didier
  9. I am just designing some equipment, the styling of the device is important. This has lead to the upshot that we want to be able to mount the Samba 7 inch PLC from the back of the enclosure rather than the front. Has anyone done this successfully? How did you design the mounts fittings? The options for materials / manufacture are sheet aluminium or injection mould. Ideally we want to go with bent sheet material as that will help with EMC shielding.
  10. Dear colleagues, i need some support concerning the remote control with an iPhone. My connection is not really stable. I connect the iPhone and after 10-60 seconds the connection fail and I cannot connect to the PLC anymore. So I have to disconnect to the WLAN connection and connect ones more and then it goes, but again only 10-60 seconds. So the question is whether it is an iPhone problem or a general problem with the connection. Or do i have to change the router adjustments? Another oddness is that it is only possible to connect if the IP adress is 192.168.1.1 and this is the same as the router ones. it is a riddle to me how this works. Maybe I need an iOS update? I am thankful for every guess. Best regards Fabian
  11. Hello everyone, I am very new in programming with Visilogic. Everything is fine despite the fact that the coulor of the pixels change if I touch the display. These marks will be deleted if i switch between the screens. I dont know why this happens because it is really annoying but i couldn't found anything on the internet to stop this. I hope someone can help me! Best regards Fabian
  12. I need to get a Samba to send simple wireless data transmissions using a Cinterion EHS6T 3G modem. My program works with a 2G Enfora GSM 1318-50 but not with the Centerion.
  13. Hello, For a project im working on I need to motitor serval energy sources and control multiple relays. I would like to use the Samba 4.3" PLC for giving a nice interface to the system. The problem is that I have over 30 outpust I need to control. I've found a modbus RTU (RS485) energy meter who measures the voltage and current. Also found a modbus RTU (RS485) digital output module with 16 outputs. Is it possible to use the Samba 4.3" PLC with V100-17-RS4 module to communicate over modbus with the IO modules and energy meters? Best Regards, Jelmer
  14. Hello, I am using SAMBA PLC (4.3 and 7.0 as well) for historic car rallies, in order to calculate ideal distance based on time and a given average speed. I have noticed that the RTC has a strange behaviour. I syncronize my PLC RTC with an accurate digital clock, and after a few minutes, I can notice already, a small difference (e.g. 3/10 of a second). But after a while, the two clocks are syncronized again. I tried also the following. I used the SB 15, which comes true 10 times per sec, and I increase a ML15 every time SB 15 is true. In parallel, I created a bit (MB6) which comes true, every time the RTC seconds change. Based on it, I increase ML10 by 10 this time. I compare those 2 values every second. If everything was ok, the difference of these values should always be 0, or at least something fix, but in fact I see that this difference is changing, from 0 to 5 (means max difference 0,5 sec) Why this occurs, and is there anyway to avoid it? In fact I need an accurate RTC, which will always be synchronized with the rally organization clock. Thank you in advance
  15. I have been tasked with developing a centralized server that will communicate with many Samba PLCs around the world. Specifically, I need to ensure that the server can contact any PLC and 1) get a copy of the current values or 2) instruct the PLC to change a value. I want to ensure that the PLCs only communicate with the server, no other computers. The data itself is not considered secret, so the fact that VisiLogic does not appear to offer encryption is not a problem. But, it is critical that only the server be allowed to update PLC values. It is simply unacceptable that another person could connect and update values, even if it would take quite the effort to accomplish that goal. Is there any way to ensure that the PLC's will only respond to requests/instructions from our centralized server? If I send a password, as a message, that password would not be encrypted, so others could see and use it. Is there anyway to securely connect to a Samba PLC, using VisiLogic? The server will know the PLC name and the IP Address, but once again, this would be transmitted unencrypted. Is there a way to program the PLC's to only accept connections from certain IP Addresses? In summary, I want to ensure that the PLCs will listen for communication from our server, they will send current values when requested, they will update their values when told, and they will ignore any requests from others. Is this possible? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
  16. Six year winning streak! We are very proud to announce that Samba 7" joins the ranks of Unitronics’ products that have been honored by Control Engineers’ Choice Award. Samba won the award in the category of Hardware – integrated HMI controllers. Read more about it here.
  17. According to this Samba Technical Specifications document, the Samba series PLC+HMI has two 0-10V or 4-20mA user selectable analog outputs: http://unitronicsplc.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/SMXX-J-RA22-SPEC-2-16.pdf Looking at the SM43-J-T20 sitting in front of me, that does not appear to be the case. Did the analog outputs get cut from the production model after that information sheet was put together, or is there another model of Samba that does include analog outputs natively?
  18. Hello, I got the task to make a control system for a air conditioning unit which I guess needs 4 PID loops. One each for heating, cooling, humidification and dehumidification. Only two loops will be active at the same time. The product overview for Samba SM35-J-TA22 say "Auto-tune PID, 2 independent loops ". Does this mean that it is not possible to have 4 loops in the program? I would appreciate a quick reply!
  19. Dear all, i want to use the 7 inch samba for my project (as this small plc is enough for my machine). Now i have the problem that i would need 2 more digital outputs. As there is only the possiblity to add remote (CAN) IOs. It would be very expensive to add a EX-RC1 plus an output module only for adding 2 more digital outputs.......... Does any one have a better idea to lower the costs? Maybe there is planned to add local IO functionality to SAMBA plcs in near future, or any other suitable cost effective solution? Thanks for your comments BR
  20. Hi, I 'm new to samba and Visulogic programming, and I'm having some problems to use the samba sm35-j-t20 serial port to send data into a chinese printer(csn-a2-r), it uses rs232... I initialize the the com with the printer parameters and I configured an protocol, but when I try to send the messages something goes wrong, The data is not sed correctly, it appears ramdom stuff in the printer. obs.: the printer is 12vdc so I hacked it with a lm7812 to be able to use it with the same power supply. Someone have done something similar and/or can help please? here is the link for the printer and i'm attaching the code for the samba. https://cdn-shop.adafruit.com/datasheets/CSN-A2+User+Manual.pdf giga de testes com impressora.vlp
  21. Hello! I have a next project where I have to use module EX9024D. For this project I use Unitronics Samba (SM43-J-T20) with v100-17-rs4 module (because this combo is what I have right now). Operation manual for EX9024D: https://www.expertdaq.com/media/downloads/ex-9021_ex-9022_ex-9024.pdf Basically I have to send #023-02.500 command to module (page 20). This command will generate -2.5V to output 3 (total 4 outputs, 0-3). This task is little over my head, especially when it comes to using ModBUS, so I will need help. How do I transmit this kind of command over ModBUS (I believe I also have to transmit character #, not sure tho)? Could anybody please explain and guide me through this? I have also tried to watch provided example files, but this is still too confusing to me. Best regards, Steven
  22. Hi all, at the moment i am using a Vision350 Controller for a small machine type. We think about replacing the Vison350 with the new 7 Inch samba. Now i have a few questions, because i am not sure if the memory of the samba would be enough for this program. * How can i find out the memory used in the Vision350 controller? I already looked at the "project memory map", but i did not get really useful information from there. I only see that i am using 4,9 % of the DLU capacity, but i do not find any information about how many kb are used for ladder code, hmi variables, .......... * Is there any way to export my code from the Vison350 and reimport it in Samba? I already tried to change the hardware in the project, but it is not possible to keep the hmi screens and the ladder code..... I also tried to export the ladder subroutines one by one, but also here the import is not possible, because i always get the message that some used operands are not available on the samba platform. Of course i have to re-adress some variables, but it is just not possible if i cannot import the subroutine in my samba project. Any tips would be helpful, as i think that this small project would fit in the Samba models. And using a 7 Inch display would be better than the 3,5 inch from the Vision. Thanks BR
  23. Hi! I figured I may have run into trouble here and thought to ask for your opinion. I got my hands on Bautz DSK-12 AC motor driver and Unitronics Samba (4.3 inch, transistor type) PLC and acquaintance of mine asked me to do some programming. Firstly, I discovered that encoder (what I have to use) is running on 5v (actually to get encoder values from driver I have to feed it 5v and not any higher). Thought that I could buy fast (50kHz) optocoupler to ramp up 5v to 24v and feed it into PLC. Secondly, I discovered that this type of motor driver takes +/-10v to change motor direction and velocity. (ex. there is 2 pins, first pin has to have ZERO aka reference voltage and other pin has to have zero to +10v OR zero to -10v, accordingly which direction user wants to motor go). I do not have any thought how to fix this one. Do I have to order some kind of additional position controller or is there something else what can I do? Bautz DSK12 datasheet: http://www.ahs-antriebstechnik.de/pdf-dateien-e/Servo Drives Servo Amplifier/Manual DSK12-gb.PDF (German version, for german friends out there: http://www.servodyntechnik.de/DSK_12_d.PDF) Help from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Greetings, Steven
  24. New Application Story **** Starring Samba in the role of theater grip! **** People--high cool factor here ------------------------------------------------------ Compact, Cost-Effective Samba PLC+HMI Opens Creative Avenues for Local Theater! “Motion Control with Unitronics PLCs has allowed us the freedom to reach for new heights of visceral creativity while expanding our technical innovation in a fast and cost-effective manner”. Summary: The Eagle Theatre in Hammonton, New Jersey partnered with Unitronics’ distributor, Bayview Bearing and Supply, to introduce innovations to a regional theater. Using a Samba PLC with 3.5” color-touch HMI and onboard I/O, the theater implemented a simple motion control application for their set pieces. Since the initial installation, the Eagle Theatre has expanded the application, creating more complex moving sets that greatly enhance the mood and themes of their productions. Full story: The Eagle Theatre in Hammonton, New Jersey is South Jersey’s only year-round professional Equity theatre. They are dedicated not only to bringing great theater to the region, but also to bringing innovation to their productions. To achieve those goals, the theater decided to add moving elements to their sets for one of their productions. Three screens needed to descend at a consistent speed, but at different times. The team at the Eagle Theatre initially tried to use electric winch packages, but these were slow and too noisy to use during a performance. With only one week until the show opened, the theater reached out to Bayview Bearing and Supply, a Unitronics distributor, for help. Bayview Bearing was able to solve these issues by implementing a Samba all-in-one PLC with 3.5-inch color-touch HMI. They worked with Jared Smith, a contractor with Deerfield Electric, who built the panel and installed the unit. The Samba controlled Vacon 20 VFD’s (Variable Frequency Devices) and World Wide Electric Gear Motors in order to move the set pieces. Each of the moving pieces was assigned a virtual button on the Samba; these buttons raised and lowered the screens, while also displaying their current position. Not only did the new system work beautifully, Bayview Bearing was able to get it up and running with enough time for rehearsals with the new system before the show opened. Not only was this particular performance a success due to the Samba, working with PLC control has created new options for the Eagle Theatre moving forward. Ted Wioncek III, Co-Artistic Director at the theater, explains “motion control with Unitronics PLC’s has allowed us the freedom to reach for new heights of visceral creativity while expanding our technical innovation in a fast and cost effective manner.” In fact, the Eagle Theatre has already expanded the motion control application to other shows. For one production, the entire set shifted constantly, with the walls moving in and out independently of each other. A major theme of the show was misdirection, so the moving set was used to reinforce that theme within the physical space the characters interact with. As Ryan Mayer of Bayview Bearing explains, this isn’t a typical motion control application, “this is automation technology meeting the art community and producing fantastic results.” To learn more about Bayview Bearing and Supply, visit them online. To learn more about the Eagle Theatre, visit them online.
  25. Does the SAMBA support expansion IO? If so, does it use the RS232 port, and which modules are supported?
