  1. This is where I found out there's literally no end to how much I/Os you can cram into a V570. The year is 2011, my first medium-scale PLC project. It was an animal food production plant. There was about 200 I/O points at first, and later the system grew to about 250. Also numerous weighing scales and temperature measurements. When I found out that there would be no way to put any more than about 100 I/O points via Unitronics modules, I had to resort to Turck's CANopen I/O modules. These pack a respectable number of terminal blocks per square inch of panel space. It all worked flawlessly,

  3. Back in 2011 I've come to the conclusion that V570's hardware is a beast, and that no amount of ladder code would be able to fill it completely. So in 2014 I did a project with 3 V130, which are supposed to have the same CPU and memory power as V570, only in a smaller, cheaper package. This is a small automation project involving few mixers and some material flow management. We have 3 PLCs, talking to each other via Ethernet, and a supervisory computer. Everyone loves to have a shiny 24" monitor, but paying more than $500 for a Scada package couldn't fit the budget, so Z-View SCADA was th

  4. Both "Store in Array" and "Load from Array" do work in my case with bit array. Does it give some sort of errors ?

  5. Dustin sent me his application privately. The problem was the images he was using had different outlines, so using "Transparent Background" left relics of the previous image visible. Not using the transparent background didn't look good, either, as the resulting animation looked weird and blocky. The solution was to use both "Transparent Background" (which applies to the image) AND "Draw on Back Color" The color used for Back Color can be selected, so I chose the color that most closely matched the pipe he was overlapping with the animation. It wasn't quite as good as a Bugs

  6. I had a similar issue on the Samba PLC. For me, the solution was to raise SB 31 (Refresh current LCD screen display variables) whenever the image has changed. Maybe that will work on the V570 as well.

  7. Just for interest's sake some thoughts on relays. I have copied in here some specs for a common relay Unitronics use. Mechanical 50,000,000 operations min. (at 18,000 operations/hr) Electrical 100,000 operation min. (at 1,800 operations/hr under rated load) Note the large difference between what the relay mechanicals are capable of vs what the electrical contacts are capable of. MTBF is something that designers often (inadvertently) overlook. I find it amazing that a relay maker will say their unit is OK to do "1800 operations/hr under rated load", when clearly if you run th
