  1. Yo Flex,

The port is really just identifying what service to use. It's kinda a logical construct. It's not like the IP address that has to be unique like a phone number. The port could be looked at like the number to a building, but ever office in the building has it's own unique phone number or IP if you will.  Like the most common port on the internet is port 80 which is most non-secure socket connections for web pages. The server is listening to port 80 just waiting for an IP to come request something so it can send something back.

Visco, have you had any issues with reliability or issues with the fact that the PLC cannot see removal of the card?

I have had zero issues with doing this. I will also add that one of these is in the same small enclosure that I have SSR's and high voltage going to heaters for a test apparatus and have still not had any issues.  Reading the TB that AlexUT posted, I don't see why you could not loop the wires through a ferrite bead or donut/choke to reduce any minor EMI. It would look like crap but you could also separate all the strands then twist them back together with a choke. I have those extenders in 3 pieces of test equipment that we built. We are using them to write a continuous log during tests. Mind you, I am a chemist, not an electrical engineer, all those ideas to reduce EMI work awesome in my mind, but in reality may differ.

  3. If you are having an issue with Windows 10 and Visilogic & Unilogic  seeing mapped drives. Here is a workaround/fix in the attached image. I requires a simple entry into the registry.

Note: this will only work for a User that is currently logged in with administrative rights and already has UAC enabled.
This does not work for a User with User privileges. If you installed Visilogic or Unilogic as administrator you already you have admin rights.

Other Note: If you are not comfortable editing the registry or understand what you are doing with the registry... THEN DON'T DO IT! And as always create a  System Restore Point before you edit the registry in case you do something wrong.

  5. In my limited experience I have had similar issues.

    things to check/try.
Even though your power supply is 24 VDC it may not be large enough.  Try a higher watt supply and a quality one.

Check how close your thermocouple wire is to motor leads.

Grounds, grounds, grounds.  We earth ground every tank, isolated pipe, panels, etc.  if it’s metal... earth it.

    good luck
