  1. Hi, the existing installation consists of eight PT100 sensors connected to a Digital indicator with 3 wire runs for each sensor. I intend to replace the Digital indicator and use IO-PT400 and V130. However, the IO-PT400 manual appears to suggest only 4-wire RTD connections. So my question is whether I can use the IO-PT400 with 3-wire RTD only. If so, should I jumper +I and +V terminals or should I jumper -I and -V terminals on IO-PT400 end? Thanks.

  3. Hi All, VisiLogic V9.8.9 drop down menu "Com" does not show the 'Profibus Configuration' item. Using VisiLogic V9.8.9, I successfully configured and tested a Profibus communication between a V350 and a Siemens S7-300 Cpu. I observed that when using V130, V350 and V430 the 'Com\Profibus Configuration' item is visible but absent with a V700. I read from the VisiLogic version history that the Profibus function on a V700 is already included as early as VisiLogic V9.8.0. So, my questions are, when using a V700: - How or where I can setup the profibus configuration? - Can profibus and ethernet function simultaneously? Thanks in advance.
  4. In your first EX-RC1 rack, if you are trying to configure all 64 channels of 8 IO-ATC8 modules, you have exceeded the maximum words that can be placed in one adapter. I had this problem before and I realized during setup that although the specification allows for a maximum of 8 I/O modules per adapter, you can only configure a maximum of 49 words. With an adapter with 8 IO-ATC8 modules, this mean you can only configure a maximum of 49 channels (1 ATC8 channel = 1 word). This translate to only 6 fully used ATC8 modules + 1 ATC8 with 1 channel used. In my case before, I was forced to add more adapters so that I will have a maximum of 6 ATC8 modules per EX-RC1. In your case, one solution is to move 2 ATC8 modules from the first EX-RC1 to the second EX-RC1. Your first adapter will have 6 ATC8 while your second adapter will now have 5 ATC8 (40 words) and 1 digital module (1 word).
  5. Another desirable feature that the VisiDiff should have is the ability to compare a saved project file with an online OPLC. Preferably, supported saved projects that can be compared are vlp as well as clone files.
  6. Hi all, When using the built-in Alarm displays of a V570, the displayed alarm list is sorted based on the Alarm ID number. Is there a way to display the most recent alarms on top of the list instead? Thanks.

  8. I seem to have bumped to an undocumented limitations on I/O expansion module count per adapter (EX-A1 or EX-RC1). The hardware configurator allows us to place 8 ATC8 modules on the rail without error. (Also, note that with 8 ATC8, the 5Vdc power limit is not exceeded). However, we get an error message when we try to configure the entire 64 channels available. . The error start to appear on the 50th channel. Actually, when mixing a combination of digital and analog I/O modules, the limit appears to be 50 words. If 50 IO words is actually the limit, then it should appear on the documentations as it is an important information for sizing the PLC. We need the entire 64 AI channels per rail. Is there any work around aside from adding another adapter module? Thanks.
  9. Hi all, What is the maximum switching frequency for inputs 0-14 of IO-DI16 module? I need to totalize several low frequency pulses (e.g., around 100 to 200 Hz) and would like to confirm suitability of the normal digital input channels.
  10. One very important benefit of having an SD card on OPLC controllers is the ability to backup and/or clone OPLC programs and OS. If needed, a technician without a programming background can replace a faulted unit and download the backups from the SD card using only the controller faceplate--no PC required. For EX-RC1 modules, it would be great if it will also have SD card for backup purposes. Since there is no HMI, program uploading/downloading between EX-RC1 and SD card may be controlled by a DIP switch or part of a startup routine of the EX-RC1. An alternative is to be able to backup and/or download programs and OS to/from an OPLC's SD card to a linked EX-RC1 module.
  11. So far, the solution offered for expansion I/O's on multiple racks is the use of EX-RC1 remote expansion modules. This is great specially if I/O's are distributed over longer distances. However, if only 2 or 3 racks are installed on the same panel, the use of EX-RC1 becomes less practical. So, how about if Unitronics comes up with another local expansion adapter (e.g., say, EX-A2) which would have two (2) RJ-45 connection ports. For example, three expansion I/O racks on the same panel may be connected as follows: 1. Port1 of Rack1 is connected to OPLC. 2. Port2 of Rack1 is connected to Port1 of Rack2. 3. Port2 of Rack2 is connected to Port1 of Rack3. 4. Port2 of Rack3 is terminated. 5. The connecting cable length is less than 1m. This results to a 3-tiered local adapter racks on the same panel. Some benefits of having 1 to 3 local racks are: - simpler to implement - I/O data are more readily accessible -- no separate programming is required as when using RC1. - gives more flexibility on panel mounting (e.g., panel width issues with horizontal module mounting) Thanks.
  12. Mounting horizontally an adapter and eight expansion I/O modules would not fit in our cabinet. So, one option is to mount the modules vertically. I just like to confirm if vertically mounting the modules is allowed and without any effect on the rated specifications and normal operation. - e.g., since the vent holes would be on the sides when modules are mounted vertically, does the operating temperature gets de-rated from the max. of 50 DegC? - e.g., any effect on operation of relay modules? - would it matter whether the adapter module would be on the top side or bottom side of the column--e.g., effect on heat dissipation?   13. As you said, very good products like Unitronics may take a long while before it fails. First, the client basically wants longer coverage with their stocked spare parts. For example, consider stocking a spare unit with one year warranty--when the breakdown occurs, say, on the second year, the replacement part withdrawn from the stock already has an expired warranty. Other products that they use, like networking peripherals, has standard 2-year warranties with an option for extended warranties for another 1, 2, 3 years. Although I have not yet inquired the added cost and scheme with the manufacturer. Also, as added comment, the warranty policies of a lot of manufacturers like Siemens, Rockwell, etc. are readily viewable from their respective websites. So maybe, Unitronics can publish theirs as well.
  14. Thanks Joe for the info. A client is asking for an extended warranty period of three years. I wonder if there is such a warranty scheme with Unitronics products.
  15. What is the standard warranty on Vision products? 1 year, 2 years...? I tried looking for documents describing the scope of warranty on Vision hardware parts but could not find one. Can someone provide information and/or link? Thanks.
  16. Hi Ash, Thanks for the reply. Some more questions. Would it be possible for expansion I/O's via EX-RC1 and two Vision Controllers (e.g., V570's) all linked in CAN to implement the following: 1. EX-RC1 I/O states and operand values transmitted to two V570's? For example, 60 temperature values or 100 pump states simultaneously updated to the 2 V570's. 2. Either or both V570's sending write commands to the same EX-RC1 linked output channels and/or operands? For example, can either or both V570 send an on/off command to a relay output and/or write a numeric value to the same analog output channel?
  17. When turned off, would the RC1 also loose the ladder program, i.e., does the application program need to get re-downloaded?
  18. How can PI only or PD only control strategies be implemented instead of the complete PID algo? The Pause.I&DC function could simultaneously turn off both I&D components but not individually. If setting large values on the I&D operands would be the solution, what would these numbers be? Also, is it possible to have the Auto tune function to compute for PI only or PD only controls?
