redhunter Posted October 10, 2016 Report Posted October 10, 2016 Hi all I need a 10 volt DC supply for a pot for analog input on a Jazz JZ 20 R31. Any thing do? Such as a LM7810 linear regulator? Or do I not need to worry, just stick 24VDC across the pot and when the analog input sees over 10 volts goes over-scale? Thanks Craig
MVP 2023 Joe Tauser Posted October 14, 2016 MVP 2023 Report Posted October 14, 2016 You can put 24V into the pot, but that's not a good solution. When I run into this I engage my engineering brain and determine what resistor I need to put in series with the pot to create a 10V drop across it. What is the value of the pot you're going to use? Something to take into account is the input impedance of the Jazz voltage input is 20K, which is rather low. You'll probably want to use a 5K pot to try to minimize it's effect. Joe T.
Kikis Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 I usually use an analog output which i program to continuously output 10V as reference voltage for pots.
redhunter Posted October 17, 2016 Author Report Posted October 17, 2016 Thanks for the replies, like the simple solution of your's Joe, resistor in series with the pot. Ended up using a voltage reg. Cheers Craig
