SMS content is scrambled

I am trying to save the contents (sender's number and message contents) to an integer or string form, but this proves difficult even though everything else works fine(sending and receiving messages). What i have so far tried:

 

1)After enabling the SB199 "save SMS to Memory Vector" and setting SI199 to MI199 and receiving an SMS message, i get aprx. 20 rows of intangible integers (presumably PDU) in the MI's following MI199.

SDW13 contains the phone number without country code.

 

2)sending the modem an AT command "AT+CMGF=1" to get something to read on my sniffer card, i get readable data going between the modem and SM43 unit, but the data written to all the memory integers are just numbers, again.

Any ideas how to accomplish saving the SMS in text or string form to device memory?
