Consecutive coils connection

Hello, I am a newcomer in Unitronics and I met a ladder feature I can't understand.

This is from U90Ladder examples:

 

I can see 2 coils in one line.

 

I tried to repeat this, and this doesn't work:

 

So, the question is: how does it work in 1st case and how can I use this technique correctly?

Hello,

 

Are there any other coils for O4 in your program?  It may be an issue due to the sequence of operations.

 

Please ensure you only use one coil per operand (Output/Bit) in your program.

The example for the second should work, assuming this is the only coil for the output. 
 
Is there another coil for the output? Is so, the coils will conflict, and the last coil will control the state.

Yes, there was the same coil in a string after. It explanes everything, thank you.

Also, if that ladder rung is in a subroutine, make sure the subroutine is being called by the Main routine.
