Dear Forumites,

I have an issue with SD Card.

For the first time  SD card plugged into PLC, the PLC detects the SD Card and the System Bit (SB217, SB218 shows "1" ).

Once the data is written to SD Card and if the card was removed from PLC, after copying all the data's  and when SD card is inserted back into PLC it doesn't detects the card. I need to do lot of trial and errors to make the card detectable.

I even tried with different make of SD cards such as Allen Bradley, Transcend, SanDisk etc still the problem persists.

I followed the safe removal process and every time when I place the card in the PLC using SD Card suite I am formatting the card

as per the webinar video series still I am getting this issue.

The Controller I am using is V570.

Can any one throw some light on this.

An appropriate reply in this regard is highly appreciated.

Thanks

Vijay

Are you giving it a full 30 sec to a minute to detect the card? It does sometimes take longer than you think it should.

Hi Flex727,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes I am giving more than a minute for detection. Today morning to a surprise I bought a brand(SAN DISK MAKE-8 GB) new SD card and plugged it into my PLC, now the same is working.

A few years ago I had difficulties with various brands of SD cards and found the most reliable compatibility with Unitronics PLCs was SanDisk. In recent times I have had much less trouble, but always use SanDisk anyway. There is still an occasional problem, though fairly rare, but I'll say I also have the occasional problem with my desktop and laptop.

I don't think there's anything wrong with making a recommendation to a customer for a particular brand if it's based on experience and not based on some sort of kickback or profit motive.

Indeed, I often recommend Unitronics over other PLCs because I consider them a good fit for their application and the best value for them.

Thanks a lot Flex.

I have one more quick question to you

I have enabled the web service utility of V-570 PLC.

I am able to view the data's on the web browser, now I need to  connect the same to the Plant network which has internet connectivity.

So in that case what security measures do I need to take care of the PLC.

Hi all!

I found 2 critical problems with SD cards, when SD card is not detected at all, or detection take long time - more than 1 minute.

1.When SD card include non 8.3 named files. Such files will be created by some PC applications. I found one of such application is automatic disk defragmenters.

Such software cteate hidden long name files on each SD/Disk on key, etc. devices, connected to PC USB port.

Solution  - use PC which have no such software installed, or uninstall it. Format of SD card is recommended to restore its normal condition.

2.SD card lost its capacity.Solution - download Panasonic SD card formatter from  site and re-format SD card with RESTORE CAPACITY key.

I restored number of SD cards by this software.

3.Do not use cheap SD cards of unknown manufacturers. I failed with such 8 GB card of unknown manufacturer in Saturn store, Germany. Bought it to have SD/Mini SD/Micro SD adapters. But SD card is not working from the box.

4.Use Safely Remove Media icon to remove SD card from PC.

I hope this helps.

Frankly, I'm not an internet security expert. I would direct that question to Unitronics support (support@unitronics.com).

Hey canvJ.

Can you forward me unitronics answer to your question. I am also interested on security measures.

=)

Thank you for contacting Unitronics Tech Support.

What do you need for security?  Are you filtering out who can connect to your web server?

Usually the security for who can connect in to the PLC is dealt with on the modem side when you set up the port forwarding.  When connecting to the PLC’s web server outside the network, they first have to connect to the modem on the PLC’s network.

You may also set up similar security by keeping a list of “secure” IP addresses in a data table, then matching the IP that connects to see if it is in the data table list.  If it is not, disconnect the TCP/IP connection.

Furthermore, if you wish to have a log-in page with different levels of operators, you will have to create the HTML pages for this type of log in.  You can then load these HTML files into an SD card, and access the “Advanced Webserver” on the PLC.  Use the logic in the PLC to load the appropriate web pages.

Please let me know if this helps.  Please let me know a little further what type of security features you would like to incorporate.

Please feel free to contact us with any other questions or concerns.
