  1. I have a customer with some equipment controlled by a V1210 PLC with a bunch of I/O attached. This equipment is in the middle of nowhere and the 110V power is a bit iffy. There seems to be frequent voltage spikes or other glitches that often cause the PLC to lock up (power cycling brings it back with no problem). They have a UPS, which does keep things powered up, but doesn't seem to block other kinds of glitches. Anyone have a recommendation for high quality power conditioning for 110V?

  2. Anyone ever use this function? I think it's very useful for backing up the software and updating without having to walk through the INFO Mode menus. I prefer to lock out INFO Mode (Set SI 50 Power-Up to zero) anyway so someone doesn't accidentally end up there by holding their finger on the screen too long.

One question I have is that the Help file specifically says to use a NEGATIVE Transition to activate the function? Why do they say that? I like to set up a button that you have to press and hold for several seconds to activate the function and the best way to do that is to activate a Delay Timer with the button press  and use a POSITIVE transition of the delay timer to activate the SD function. I tried that and it works fine. So what's the deal?

  3. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that Remote Operator and Remote Access are for the Vision line only. The UniStream uses VNC.

It sounds like you are trying to access the PLC while external to the network it's on. You must take certain actions in order to do that and I recommend that you consult with the IT professional that has responsibility for the intranet the PLC is on. This issue is unrelated to the PLC, but is common to every device that you might want to communicate with from the internet. One common method for accessing a PLC on an internal network from the internet is to use port forwarding on a router, though that is not the most secure way.

  4. I have successfully autotuned and run a PID loop without any I/O attached by varying the analog input by hand. The resulting PID values would not work in the real world, but I was able to test to make sure the PID loop was set up correctly.

The PID values can be calculated by the autotune process or you can enter them manually. You have either or both options available to you.

You don't need an oscilloscope to see analog output. Just go online and look at the MI operand attached to the analog output.

By the way, there are example projects that came with your VisiLogic installation that include an example for PID loops. Take a look at that and see if your PID is set up correctly.
