UniLogic installation on Windows 8.1

Hi all,

I had been using the original UniLogic software with windows 8 and 8.1 with no problems.I downloaded the latest version today and failed to start the program.

The download appears to progress normally. The program starts with "loading notifier" and then followed by "loading Components"

At this point nothing happens and the program will not load further. The PC still functions as normal with little impact on resources.

Has anyone managed to install this version on windows 8.1?

I ran the new version on Windows 8 (not 8.1, because my windows doesn't show the 8.1 update).We would like to get some further information about this problem. Please navigate to:
 

                            %ProgramData%\Unitronics\UniLogic\Temp\ErrorData\
 

You should either see a zip file dated with the date and time of the crash, or a bunch of files like: sysinfo.txt and information.txt The one that contains the actuall error is information.txt
 

Please attach this file here, or paste it's content. This might give us a clue about what wrong.

I checked that file and its empty.

I'm not really getting an error, the start up of the program just stops.

When I start in windows 8.1 mode i get image 1

When I start in compatibility for windows 8 or 7 i get image  2.

Both with run as administrator enabled.

Can you please start UniLogic without any compatibility mode, and then check in the Windows event viewer to see if there are any .net exceptions (and if so, what?)

Not sure if this is a windows component of something in the Unilogic setup.

In case the Unitronics,Notifier.exe is running, the kill it with the Task manager.

 

Open the command prompt and write:

sqllocaldb start UniLogic

 

If you get an error when you write the sqllocaldb thingy in the command prompt, then tell me.

 

Then start UniLogic.

What happens if you write in the command prompt:

 

sqllocaldb start v11.0

It appears that something went wrong in the LocalDB installation. The following solution is kinda long shot, but it helped someone else that was using Microsoft Lightswitch.

 

Go to:

%localappdata%\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\Instances

 

You should see there 2 folders:

UNILOGIC

v11.0

 

Delete the UNILOGIC folder

 

Start the command prompt as administrator and write:

sqllocaldb delete UNILOGIC

sqllocaldb create UNILOGIC

sqllocaldb start UNILOGIC

 

Hopefully, you will not get any error on either of those commands, and if the start command goes successfully, then UniLogic will most likely work correctly this time.

In XP i install and run UniLogic without problem but in Windows 7....

I install UniLogic 1.2. ver5 and try to run it.

I also just bought a new PC with Windows 8.1 (in French).

I made a new installation with my login (I'm Administrator) but did have had a lot of problems!

I uninstalled VisiLogic  9.5.0, deleted all directory's.

I logged now as Administrator. Make a new install. Now I could load my Projects.

If I go back to my user profile and start VisiLogic (also as Administrator), I get a lot of error messages. Like:

Recouver Project (165)

VisiLogic was not shut down properly.

Or 14Invalid Tools collection index

Error 2006

Programm crash!...

I like to use Visilogic with my user profile! I also switched off UAC but same problems. 

Sometime, I can start VisiLogic and load a project, but can’t exit it!

We are talking here about UniLogic, but what you describe is a different story (Since UniLogic was built while considering Administrative rights, files and directories locations etc, but when Visilogic was first introduced, Windows 95 and 98 was in the market and administrative rights were not even an issue).

 

About windows 8... you think you have disabled the UAC.

If you have disabled it from the windows configuration UI then it is not actually turned off, it is just not showing any annoying messages. I had issues like that with other programs (The only way to turn off the UAC completely is using the registry, but after we weeks it goes back on).

 

The solution for the Visilogic problem is running Visilogic as Administrator (right click on it and select "Run as Administrator"). Windows 8 does give administration rights to a program even if you are the administrator and the UAC is "Off"

In this machine i have both XP and Win7.

First I instal UniLogic in XP without problem.

Next I instal UniLogic as admin but UAC was on in Win7.

Problem is still occur.

Yes Visilogic seem to work correctly if I start it as Administrator!

You are right I didn't turn USC off, only disable it just to not have any messages.

mbb, I don't think that the problem you have is related to administrative rights. I cannot know the exact problem from the error report, because I only get that there was an unhanded exception in a Task, and the Notifier crashes only after the .Net garbage collector has collected the task (and it doesn't give me any information about the exact error).

 

Maybe looking at the Windows Event Viewer would give the exact error (There are sometimes 2 errors, one is more generic).

 

Please contact our support tomorrow or on Monday, so one of our R&D will try to help (We would probably want to remote control the computer in order to look on some error logs, or put a debug exe that tries to find the exact error)

I solve the problem.

Problem isn’t related to administrative rights.

For unknown to me reasons. UniLogic Installer don’t install SQL’s.

I think this is normal because in “UniLogic System Requirements ReadMe.pdf“ I read and Unitronics write this:

Notes:

*Windows XP: the UniLogic installation will also include SQL 2008 R2 Express.

*The UniLogic installation files for higher version of Windows do not require SQL 2008 R2 Express

 

In my machine Installer: Pending Microsoft Net Frame 4 install it and then Pending and install some update for Net Frame and this is all.

 

When I look in pack, ooooh surprise there is SQL’s for 32- and 64- bit versions.

I install it manually. And everything is OK. My UniLogic work.

 

It is not very difficult to write a document and describe what users must install and see the screen???

 

This problem took me three days and a lot of reading.

 

UniLogic still look great in my eyes.

You should have installed the LocalDB server (not the SQL 2008 R2)

I don't now what mean SP1.

They just install Win 7 and then have about 175 updates.

In the next day I try to install UniLogic.

I ask some people at work after Christmas. I'm working on 30.12.2013.

 

I find SQL server (LocalDB) maybe 2012  in UniLogic package.

 

I'm sure this is not SQL 2008 R2.

SP1 means Service Pack 1 (a bunch of fixes for windows packed in a big update)

If you say that you have 175 updates, then most likely that Windows 7 SP1 was not yet installed, which can explain why the local db was not installed. (The installer install the localdb only on Vista SP2 and up, and on Windows 7 SP1 and up).

I'll forward the problem you have experienced to the R&D

UniLogic Installer automatically install NetFrame and this time SQL from UniLogic pack.
