Was wondering if unitronics had any plans for supporting a 3g modem as it appears here in Australia that the largest telco is starting to shut down parts of its 2g network meaning that all the exising modems are only going to be good for paper weights?

3G modems we know are quite different from the GPRS modems we support now. We tested here Raven EX from Sierra Wireless. It finds automatically the best way the cell provider offers for data transfer. It's very fast and stable. It has Ethernet interface so - in fact there is nothing to support from our side. You need ot program port forward in the device itself and then it acts as usual Ethernet gateway/routher. It's really great - nothing to compare with todays' GSM modems with RS232 interface. The only problem is the price. Sierra Wireless promises to output something simpler (yet same functionality from our side, but on half price. Let's hope soon...

Do you have in mine any specific devices you wissh we will support?

Thanks Emil

Looking at a 3G option to replace the existing gsm modems (wavecom, siemens) still need to use rs232 as the primary function is to send out alarm sms, always nice to get quicker speed for remote access though. As the modem needs to use one of the com ports starts getting ugly to try and get modems that aren't supported to communicate with unitronics.

Are you looking for a serial modem that supports bothway SMS as a stand alone device? If so it would need a protocol set supported by Unitronics.

Is there support for SMS interface via Ethernet pending? I have never seen a modem/router that accepts SMS strings via Ehternet interface but if itexists it would be a nice concept. I would love to get Emils response to this idea.

We use the ewon modem-router, it has ethernet port and serial port and the modem can be GPRS, UMTS or HSUPA. The problem is the price too. But when you have a big project to do, this price is easily acceptable.
