  1. In this case it could be jumping into prison, and that's something to fear. That was the point Joe was making. He has the ability to write such a program very quickly, but careful consideration quells any desire. By all means jump into your project, but be ready to extract yourself from the quagmire it will eventually turn into when a non-standard controller is discovered. No doubt you'll take this as a challenge, when it is actually practical advice to not do so.
  2. Sometimes encoders for this sort of thing can be replaced by laser distance measuring, depending on how clean things can be kept. I don't think you are looking for, or need, sub-mm accuracy and such sensors would be very easy to install and for your needs not that expensive. cheers, Aus
  3. Not even a suitable miniPC placed immediately adjacent, which should be pretty bulletproof? (If you can find one at present!) ----------------------- Are you using SDW4 in any of the calcs? ----------------------- Wondering if you could possibly do the "tailoring" in a number of steps, which would possibly reduce the remainder errors that I think you are getting. Do the process to a given point, store that value, do the process again X times storing the result again, and then average all the values. Then to do the next "range" to the next given point. If the machine is super accurate then the results will likely always be the same and this won't help, but if it does variations then this method might "smooth out" some of the remainder errors. The whole point would be to stop the compounding of errors. ---------------------- cheers, Aus
  4. I can confirm that this happens on my main PC on 21H1 and I'm still sitting on 9.8.65. It's just never happened to me because I have never done that sequence. Investigating it further to see if it is related to a W10 annnoyance, I found the error also occurs on my W7 Pro 64 laptop. Perhaps an issue for the creators to look at sometime? cheers, Aus
  5. Specifically, did you INSTALL as administrator? That error routinely shows up if you haven't done the install correctly.
  6. So....take MB3144 and TD81 out of the rung and see what happens, but I acknowledge this might upset the running ok in the first place. Alternatively, step through things as it appears something else is becoming involved that is initiating a refresh on a host of things. Or indeed there is a bug in 8.96!! cheers, Aus
  7. HI all, stumbled onto this site during searching for an unusual connector's name. Lots of great info there, way more than I was initially interested in, which I easily found in the common plugs and connectors area. Worthy of a bookmark, and congrats to the owner for constantly improving things over a fair bit of time. cheers, Aus https://helpful.knobs-dials.com/index.php/Main_Page
  8. For now go back to all your uploaded pics, delete, resize & repost. That should get you under the limit again. Limit changes are not available to the volunteer mods.....who are the people who have helped you so far.
  9. My settings will be irrelevant for you. You need to tailor your own based on what the original source size and type will be. Most of my pics are screenshot conversions, but the initial size is still different dependant on your PC.
  10. Maybe your file type choice is doing this, in that it is including the firmware? Your experience is well worth noting if it enables remote firmware update on a plc that shows that it will only do an update via a direct serial line (onsite). I've never considered this method. cheers, Aus
  11. @Cara Bereck Levy can we possibly do something about limits on the forum being increased. Perhaps link it to number of posts, to cover potential over-use? And an FYI for all, I use XnConvert to very easily reduce jpg file and physical sizes for forum use. I have saved a setting that gets an ideal output. Very easy program to work with, and very good at what it does. cheers, Aus
  12. Sometimes it is exceedingly difficult to remove incorrect drivers from Windows. As mentioned before on the forum, this VERY powerful and useful program, that should be treated and used with utmost care, can be very useful. Search for DeviceRemoverSetup.exe and carefully go over any resultant downloads with your A/V before installing. The real thing is about 5.6Mb. cheers, Aus
  13. Have a look at this post and the rest of the topic: https://forum.unitronics.com/topic/4599-totalizer-to-gpm/?do=findComment&comment=17077 cheers, Aus
  14. And perhaps have a look through the modbus area in this manual, which says similar stuff but in a different way at times : VisiLogic - Function_Blocks.pdf
  15. Flex, some younger fingers, instead of flattened out old clunky ones, might solve the issue!! 🙂
  16. Further to Flex's advice, the vlp you have posted shows created with 7.0.1, saved with 9.4.0, creation 19/8/08 and last save 11/6/13 which is different to what you have said. Am I getting confused with thinking perhaps you have 2 vlps? and Is the "old project" in theory what is in the plc, and the "original" another one that is the mfr supplied? So..I'll go on the understanding that "old project" is what is theoretically in use. Further to Flex's comments I'd download 9.4.0 first and install it, after uninstalling 9.8.95 completely. Do not forget to right click/install as admin. Then open the (copy of a copy of a copy!!!) "old project" vlp on the PC and see if Visilogic wants to update it. If it does, then fully uninstall, and reinstall 7.0.1. Either way, once you have a Visilogic that doesn't want to alter the vlp, open it on your PC and carefully go through the screens on the running PLC, comparing things side by side. This is one way you can get an idea if things are identical. You can't see the ladder, but if the screens perfectly match then it's likely the code is the same....not definite, but likely. With the same thing on the PC, go online to the PLC and try to compare all the operands used in the ladder and operand areas and see if all of them supposedly in use have something going on. Visilogic shouldn't care (to a point) that perhaps the program doesn't match up, it will simply display the online status of operands. Again check as much as you can, particularly in your potential scaling area as you may be able to change numbers already loaded, trial things, and if they are set to load original number on reboot, nothing will be changed. Make careful notes of the initial numbers so that you can put them back in place if they are not set to load particular numbers on boot. In theory you can extract all the existing operands from the plc before doing anything as a backup. I don't know/use 1040s so someone else will have to chime in on exactly how to do that. All of this will hopefully get a good result, but without the definite knowledge that the version you have in your hand is the one in the plc, you're flying a bit blind. cheers, Aus
  17. Joe, is it just my interpretation, or did you not notice that the examples given did not actually say they were going to turn on the green? "When the input is "G" the output changes to RED....." Got a bit confused there, me thinks. Damn you R2, no traffic's moving at all. And I'm also curious, young Joe, why have you posted my picture on the forum site? 🙂 cheers, Aus
  18. Fernando, just curious if it works if you go completely offline during the install? Can't see how this might work, but I have had other things I use behave differently for regos if there is no WAN connection forever, or just at the time. cheers, Aus
  19. Is SB168 on? And what does SB167 show during the failures? Others here will likely chime in with their favourite settings for other SI settings. And as it looks like there's a gateway in the mix, that's another thing that might be suspect. Have they changed that? cheers, Aus
  20. Guus, your question implies that you are indeed a beginner in Visilogic. The forum is not really here to help you learn basics....it's up to you to go through a big initial learning curve. You need to thoroughly read through the help files available in Visilogic, and learn what the various working operands all do, and how they work. You then need to experiment with basic ladder structures using an actual plc for trial and error learning. Then you can start on building programs you need, and any major stumbles along the way the forum can help. cheers, Aus
  21. CORRECT! +1 I know all you youngies reading this will go "silly, forgetful old farts", but one day you'll be like this and by then you might have picked up some of what Kratmel will be offering "when I am going to retire!" My wife is constantly frustrated with my collection, and best describes it as "Imagine having in your workshop a few of each item available in your local big hardware store , then pick up the workshop and shake it around a bit, turn it upside down then right way up, then put it back down". I am the first to confess there is an element of truth to this! I think it comes from keeping worksites completely clean and beautiful, but somehow it lapses a bit in my own place. Never enough time. And I'm sticking to that excuse! I am also of the firm belief that that thing I-saved-(ages ago) because-I-know-someday-I-will-use-it only pops into your mind again around some of the following ideas. Did the brain: a) work on it for ages and finally remind you of it's location and existence? b) keep in mind a particular immediate use for it.... when it eventually resurfaced so you put the job off? c) a happy combination of a & b and a perfectly reliable memory system at work finding it immediately on needing it......"See, I told you I'd use it one day!" But sometimes for me it's: "Oh poop, here's this thing I knew I had and spent ages looking for....bummer I found it a day after I eventually gave up and bought a new one to use!" As for that ebay site, did you check out the other stuff available? Jeepers Creepers! And most of it is "used". Wow! Someone is pretty optimistic. cheers, Aus
  22. And just to clarify, my logging writes to the data table an entire 24 hours worth, and then writes as the udt to the SD. So the data table holds the data until it is reset by the system finishing the udt write. But, in my case it doesn't check for a successful write by checking the SD itself, for me it's not that important. But such a check would not be that hard to do. cheers, Aus
